Patrick Regan OBE brings his Overwhelm Tour to Selsdon Community Centre on Saturday 14 November, 7.30pm, with music from Caitlyn Kelly. Tickets cost £5.
Anyone in Croydon who feels stretched thin by work, money, family or simply the pace of things has an evening aimed squarely at them in just over two weeks’ time. The author and speaker Patrick Regan OBE is bringing his Overwhelm Tour to Selsdon Community Centre on Addington Road on Saturday 14 November, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. Tickets are £5.
The Selsdon night is the last of three in south-east London that week: the tour’s promotional video lists Bromley on 12 November and Cranham on 13 November before Croydon on the 14th.
What happens on the night
Patrick Regan wrote Small Steps for Big Change, which the tour describes as a Sunday Times bestseller, and the evening draws on its themes. He will be joined by the performer and singer-songwriter Caitlyn Kelly.
The Eventbrite listing calls it a “magazine-style evening” that “combines inspiring conversation, practical wellbeing tools, live music from Caitlin Kelly, interviews with local charities and organisations, audience participation and stories of hope”. The organisers say people will “leave with practical tools you can begin using immediately to navigate overwhelm and build healthier, more resilient lives”.
The tour’s press release says the evening is meant for “anyone feeling overwhelmed, anxious or burned out, as well as friends, families and people who support others”, and that it “creates space for conversation about everyday pressures and small, manageable steps towards greater connection and resilience”.
In his words
Writing to us ahead of the tour, Patrick Regan said he wanted to talk about “navigating overwhelm, finding belonging, and how churches, other faith communities and local charities can work together to support people under pressure”.
He is open about where his work comes from, and equally clear about who the evening is for:
“My Christian faith informs my work, and this is an inclusive community evening: people of all faiths and none are welcome, and nobody needs to share a faith to come along.”
The release puts it the same way: the evenings “welcome people of every faith background and those with no faith”, with the aim of creating “a warm space” for people.
In the video, filmed in front of a banner for the book, he puts the pitch directly to the borough: “Croydon, I’m coming at you on the 14th November.”
