Tram and bus fares rise 10p to £1.85 from Sunday 1 November, and the daily cap goes to £5.55. The weekly pass, child fares and what stays the same.
A single bus or tram journey in Croydon will cost £1.85 from Sunday 1 November, up 10p. The current fare freeze ends at 04:30 that morning.
The Mayor of London signed the decision on 2 July, when he extended the freeze for four months (Mayoral Decision MD3517).
What changes on 1 November
| Fare | Now | From 1 November |
|---|---|---|
| Adult single, bus or tram (pay as you go) | £1.75 | £1.85 |
| Daily bus and tram cap | £5.25 | £5.55 |
| 7 Day Bus & Tram Pass | £24.70 | £26.10 |
| Half-adult and child single | frozen until 1 November | 90p |
All figures are from the Mayoral decision (MD3517). The decision puts the overall rise at 5.7 per cent. It says the new daily cap equals three single fares, and that the rise brings bus and tram fares in line with the Tube increases made in March.
What stays the same
The Hopper fare continues. You still get unlimited bus and tram journeys within an hour of your first paid one, for a single fare (MD3517).
The rise lands in the middle of the tram closure
There are no trams east of East Croydon from Saturday 24 October to Thursday 5 November, to Beckenham Junction, Elmers End or New Addington, with replacement buses running instead (TfL tram status). The new fare starts on the ninth day of that closure. The stops and the replacement bus routes are in our story on the half-term closure.
What it means for you
- If you pay as you go, there is nothing to do. Your card is charged the new fare automatically from 04:30 on 1 November.
- If you make three or more bus or tram journeys a day, the cap means you pay no more than £5.55 that day.
- If you buy a 7 Day Bus & Tram Pass, the price goes from £24.70 to £26.10.
- If you combine trams with the train into London, the train fares and caps for East Croydon are on our trains to London page. Road and rail closures for the next fortnight are on our roadworks and travel page.
