Croydon Harvest fills the town centre on 3 and 4 October, free. Then 30 more dated listings to 8 November, from Fairfield Halls to Selhurst Park.

The biggest date in the next six weeks is this weekend. Croydon Harvest featuring the Walnut Fair takes over Katharine Street, The Queen’s Gardens and Surrey Street on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October, noon to 5pm, and it is free. After that the diary belongs to Fairfield Halls and Stanley Arts, with half term shows in the last week of October. Crystal Palace are at home four times in that stretch, the last of them when Liverpool visit Selhurst Park on Sunday 8 November.

  • The Stanley Arts Historic Tour, Wednesday 30 September, 2pm to 3.30pm, Stanley Arts, 12 South Norwood Hill, SE25 6AB. Free, and the venue asks you to book. The heritage team leads a tour of the 1903 building, starting from the café (Stanley Arts).
  • CSI: Crime Scene Improvisation, Friday 2 October, 7.30pm, Stanley Arts. Tickets £19, ages 12 and over, doors 6.45pm. An improvised murder mystery in which the audience invents the crime (Stanley Arts).
  • Croydon Harvest featuring the Walnut Fair, Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October, noon to 5pm, The Queen’s Gardens, Katharine Street, High Street, Croydon Clocktower and Surrey Street. Free. Vauxhall City Farm brings sheep and goats to The Queen’s Gardens, and there is folk music, dance and free face painting. A craft and community market runs on Katharine Street, with street food on Surrey Street (Culture Croydon). Our Croydon Harvest page has the detail.
  • Croydon Harvest: Cinemini for under fives, Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October, 10.30am to noon, Braithwaite Hall, Croydon Clocktower. Free drop-in. Short films about the natural world, then sensory play (Culture Croydon).
  • Croydon Harvest: Oink and farm-making workshop, Saturday 3 October, film at noon and workshop 1.30pm to 2.30pm, David Lean Cinema, Croydon Clocktower. For ages six and over. The film is in Dutch with English subtitles, and the workshop is included in the cinema ticket. The listing prices the cinema weekend at free to £6 (Culture Croydon).
  • Croydon Harvest Historic Pub Tour, Saturday 3 October, tours at 2pm and 7pm, Croydon town centre. £5, over 18s only. Public historian Charo Havermans leads each tour for about three and a half hours. The pubs are the Spread Eagle, the Dog, the Green Dragon and the Royal Standard, and drinks are not included (Culture Croydon).
  • Croydon Harvest: Surrey Street Wandering, Saturday 3 October, Surrey Street Market. £2. Saira Niazi leads a walk through the market’s history in its 750th year. The event page dates it to Saturday only, while the council’s mural page says Saturday and Sunday at various times, so take the start time from the booking page (Culture Croydon).
  • The Magic of the Bee Gees, Saturday 3 October, 7.45pm, Fairfield Ashcroft Theatre, Park Lane, CR0 1JD. Tickets £40. A Bee Gees tribute concert (Fairfield Halls).
  • Croydon Harvest: Animal Shorts and workshop, Sunday 4 October, noon, David Lean Cinema. For all ages. Animated short films, then a workshop making miniature animal habitats, included in the cinema ticket (Culture Croydon).
  • Regents Opera: War Requiem, Sunday 4 October, 7.30pm, Fairfield Concert Hall. From £35.50. Ben Woodward conducts Britten’s War Requiem with a massed choir (Fairfield Halls).

Regular events

  • Lloyd parkrun, every Saturday at 9am, Lloyd Park, CR0 5RB. Free. A timed 5k on paths through grass and woodland, muddy in winter. Register once before your first visit. The next one is Saturday 3 October (parkrun).
  • South Norwood parkrun, every Saturday at 9am, South Norwood Country Park, Albert Road, SE25 4QL. Free. The next one is Saturday 3 October (parkrun).
  • Pollock’s Toy Museum Croydon pop-up, every Saturday, 11am to 4pm, Unit 49, Whitgift Centre, CR9 1SY. Free drop-in. A toy theatre performance of Dick Whittington runs at 12pm and 2pm. The next opening is Saturday 3 October (Culture Croydon).
  • Surrey Street Market trades seven days a week, according to the council (Croydon Council).
  • Lunchtime recitals at Croydon Minster run on Fridays at 1.10pm this term. The Minster says the series began on 18 September and invites you to bring a packed lunch. It has not published the individual dates (Croydon Minster).

Getting there
