Croydon Remembrance Sunday is 8 November. Last year's wreath-laying at the Katharine Street Cenotaph began at 10.30am, with the Minster service at 3pm.

Croydon’s Remembrance Sunday falls on Sunday 8 November 2026, and Armistice Day on Wednesday 11 November. Both are marked at the Cenotaph on Katharine Street, beside the Town Hall. The council has not yet announced this year’s times. Last year it held a wreath-laying ceremony at 10.30am on Remembrance Sunday, followed by a two minutes’ silence and a short service, with a Remembrance service at Croydon Minster at 3pm. Anyone can attend and anyone can lay a wreath.

Remembrance Sunday, 9 November 2025

  • A traditional wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph on Katharine Street at 10.30am, led by the Civic Mayor and the Deputy Lieutenant of Croydon, followed by the Royal British Legion, the Executive Mayor, civic and faith representatives, members of the military and residents.
  • A two minutes’ silence, followed by a short service of remembrance.
  • Anyone could lay a wreath. Wreath-layers met outside the Spread Eagle pub on Katharine Street at 10.20am and were called forward in turn.
  • At 3pm, Croydon Minster held a Remembrance service, open to the public.

Armistice Day, Tuesday 11 November 2025

  • A two minutes’ silence at 11am at the Cenotaph on Katharine Street, led by the Civic Mayor, the Deputy Lieutenant and the Executive Mayor. All were welcome.

The council said wreaths could be bought from the Royal British Legion, on 0345 845 1945.

The format changed in 2025

Anyone going by memory should check the time. In 2023 and 2024 the day began with the Annual Civic Service of Remembrance at Croydon Minster at 10.55am, followed by a procession of military personnel and uniformed organisations from outside Marks and Spencer in North End at about 12.15pm, and the wreath-laying on Katharine Street at 12.30pm (Croydon Council, 2024; 2023).

In 2025 the order was reversed: the Cenotaph ceremony moved to 10.30am and the Minster service to 3pm. Which pattern 2026 follows is not yet announced.

Road closures

The council closes the streets around the Cenotaph by traffic order. The 2025 order, PN299, closed these roads to traffic and parking on Remembrance Sunday:

On Armistice Day the order closed High Street (Scarbrook Road to Katharine Street) and Katharine Street (High Street to Fell Road) from 10.50am to 11.20am.

Town centre traffic was diverted via the Fell Road slip road and Park Lane, and the Alwyn Close closure via Dunsfold Way, Frensham Drive and Headley Drive. In 2024 the council also said buses that normally use Katharine Street and Fell Road would be diverted. The 2026 order has not yet been published; last year’s was dated 6 November.

Getting there
